CONTAINED: ARTIST INTERVIEW - COOPS

Words: Coops, Cal Risin
Photography: Samuel Edwards

WITH A NO EXPECTATIONS APPROACH IN MIND, COOPS runs down his new PROJECT, influences and CREATIVE PROCESSES.

"When writing the sequel to my first album "Lost Soul" which came out back in 2014, the approach was writing with no expectations to what the outcome might be or how many people may listen to it - which gave the creative process a lot more freedom.

I wanted to tap back into that feel, so the inspiration when writing the new album had to come from the approach to making the music for myself and not over-thinking how it will be received"

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH AS AN ARTIST?

"My greatest strength as an artist is that I allow my content to come naturally to me without overthinking things and really just going with the flow of my emotions at the time - I think this works in my favour as it comes across quite effortlessly"

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE TRACK FROM THE NEW PROJECT?

"Its a tough question ‘cos I made over 30 tracks towards the album and whittled it down to the number we have today, so i’d have to say I love all of them whilst they all made the cut"

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR TEENAGE SELF?

"Don’t be too critical with what you do, as long as your moving with the right intent then your doing the right things. Keep pushing, and stay consistent."

IS THERE ANY OTHER GENRE YOU WOULD LIKE TO FUSE WITH YOUR CURRENT SOUND?

"Right now I’d like to fuse reggae music with my current sound and potentially secure some features with some Jamaican artists"

ONE CELEBRITY BIRTHDAY PARTY YOU WOULD LOVE TO PERFORM AT?

" One of the Marley’s, probably Damian - maybe shout him for that feature we mentioned afterwards too"
