dna: artist interview - valentin
WE SPOKE WITH BERLIN BASED ARTIST VALENTIN on how she is EXPLORING HER unique musical language.
Berlin alternative musician VALENTIN just released her new solo-single “Groupie” and is preparing for up-coming collaborations in October on the Berlin house label Katermukke, featuring remixes from German DJ’s Dirty Doering and Niconé.
WHAT GENRE WOULD YOU POSITION YOUR MUSIC IN?
Maybe techno, maybe pop.
Being a self produced artist what advice would you give to others trying to make it in the music industry?
“First step, don’t talk, don’t listen to anyone but yourself. Create your own way of producing music. Translate YOURSELF into music, everything else already exists.
Once you have found your sound, you will find your crowd. Always stay positive and kind. And then, have a long breath and don’t stop working..Have fun”
Your favoUrite thing about Berlin and how does this inspire you?
“I love the anonymity and independence of the city. Berlin doesn’t care for you, she wants you to to take care about yourself and then she will embrace you. If you don’t, she will let you down. So the city called me to do my thing. It feels like musical photosynthesis. I am breathing in the city’s air and breathing out my music”
All of your songs resonate an emotion withIN you, which ONE of your releases meanS the most to you?
“Actually digital hugs became kind of a mantra to me. I wrote it in the first lockdown for my closest friends and family I wasn’t able to meet. I wanted to share my condolences and my huge belief in love and family through the song. And now, in every desperate situation - actually in times of war, it is my call for cohesion and peace”
