GHANIAN NATIVE RAPPER EMELIA REFLECTS ON HER ROOTS, COLLABORATIONS AND MORE.

What is your heritage and HAS this influenceD your decision when becoming a musician?

Well I’m originally from Ghana, I was born and lived there until I was five years old when we came to the Netherlands. Where I live isn’t like a musical place, you don’t really do music there especially my kind of music, people are just shocked because I’m a girl and I do hip hop. So, a lot of people would just bully you, they would just want to make sure you would stop, but I just kept going. I just don’t care what people think so yeah that’s just really it. It has been really hard living the Netherlands doing English rap even though you’re Dutch, but anything is possible.

What is your next goal to achieve in your music career?

My next goal to achieve in my next music career is definitely to get signed. I want to get signed by a record label because I think it’s going to push me further - I can do it alone but I need that push. I’m just here to make history, I don’t want to be relevant for 3 years, I want to be like Jay Z, Kanye West, really make history. If you have the right team you can definitely make it happen, so I hope I can develop my own team that just supports me and  wants me to be better.

Dream producer collaboration?

A producer I really need to collaborate with I’d say is Timbaland. Oh my god that would be crazy! If ever worked with Timbaland or Dr Dre I think I would have made it in life “laughs”.

What is your greatest strength as a music artist?

My greatest strength as an artist would be when I’m writing music I can really put my emotions in it, so when other people hear it, they can feel my energy and relate to it. I really want to help people with my music.

How do you feel your style has evolved

I think it has evolved so much! I would say how I dress too, not just my music, is now more hip hop. When I first started I was not myself, I was looking at other people but now I’ve found myself a bit and my style has now changed into me. I’m just Emelia.
