CONTAINED: ARTIST INTERVIEW -
CHRI$ DA PRINCE

LONDON’S RISING STAR CHRI$ DA PRINCE SITS DOWN AND ELABORATES ON HIS ALIAS, COLLABORATIONS + MORE.

“I think sitting there everyday writing and being vulnerable about myself about things I’ve never spoken about before is what inspires me, but it can be quite scary at the same time. You can write some of these songs and put them out but you can’t control the narrative and how it makes people feel”

Wearing CLINTS, SKITZO, YEEZY

How did the prince become part of your artist name?

Well it’s like a family thing, my dad would say ‘I’m the king of the house’ all this and that. So yeah, that made me the prince then init and Chris is my first name so it’s CHRI$ DA PRINCE, it’s just as simple as that.

We can see you have performed on multiple occasions, what is your most memorable show to date?

I’d say when Jay Critch came to London for the first time I supported his headline and bunch of people came out, Don Q, Sam Wise. Everybody was there man. That was probably my most rememberable show man.

You recently teased your latest project via instagram, could you tell us more about the visual?

It’s a bit more introspective this time round. I’m digging more deeper within myself and kinda getting into relating to other people as well. I feel like I can find something for everyone so everyone can find something within me.

We noticed collaborations with BlazeYL, how did this come about?

Me and Blaze it was more like an organic thing, we had show together earlier on in my career. He had a set and I had a set on the same show, so we was literally just chopping up backstage. Then at one point I thought Blaze would be sick on this song, let me shout him. Then we linked up in the studio and it was then 50/50 since then man.

What musician do you admire the most and why?

Probably Kendrick the most, I think he’s probably the most authentic artist out there. From his content, vocal usage, beats selection. You just know Kendrick when you hear him. That’s what I aspire to be like, not him but to be as unique as him.

How HAS your style has evolved since you first started music?

A lot man! When I first started making music I was literally making stuff like the people I listen too. So it would be like Nas, Andre3000, Drake, Kendrick - imitating those kinda artists within those development stages. I would kinda pick out what I brought to those certain uniques aspects and that’s how I develop my own style through that. It’s coming together nicely now.

What’s the biggest obstacle you have experienced in your career so far?

The biggest obstacle? It’s easy, making music that people want to hear instead what you want to make. Sometimes you might get trapped in that hole of just making what’s popping, so finding the balance between being the authentic you, or staying in the mix being relevant is a challenge.

Name one producer would you dream of collaborating with?

I can give you three, I’m not going to give you one because it’s too tough. Just Blaze, Pharrell and Boy Wonder, that’s an elite three right there.
